Changing Oil in a 2000 Chevy Impala

Place the Oil Pan

Find the oil drain plug.

then place the drain pan underneath of the drain plug.

Change Oil Filter

The oil filter can be accessed by the front passenger side tire.

When unscrewing the filter be careful not spill hot oil on yourself. Also, make sure oil pan is properly positioned to catch oil when unscrewing oil filter.

Secure Vehicle

Set the parking brake.

Chock both sides of the left and right rear tires.

Jack Up The Vehicle

Place Jack Stand

 

Jack Placement

Place the jack behind the left front tire.

There is a cutout of the plastic trim this is where the jack head is supposed to go.

Drain the Oil

Using a 15mm wrench, unscrew the oil drain plug and let the oil drain into the oil pan. Stay near the pan while the oil is draining as you may need to adjust the pans position to prevent the oil from spilling. When the oil stops continuously flowing and starts to drip the oil is done draining. Replace the plug, torque to recommended setting and wipe up any remaining oil on the cars oils pan.
